Dallas TX senior home security – Recently, the Better Business Bureau has started to receive reports from multiple local security system companies which has prompted them to issue warnings to homeowners to keep an eye out for deceptive door-to-door sales representatives who claim to be offering home security systems.

One such news release from Heather Clary, BBB Director of Communications, states the following:

“BBB was contacted by a local security system company this week, saying at least two of their Lexington [Kentucky] customers reported being visited by out-of-town sales res that implied they were affiliated with the customers’ current provider. The local company states it appears the solicitor saw the current provider’s signs or decals at their customers’ homes, and used that to make statements that he was there to ‘update’ the provider’s equipment.”

One senior customer, according to the release, made the assumption that the solicitor was legitimate and permitted him to have access to their home in order to install equipment. The solicitor then convinced the customer to sign documentation, which turned out to be a 60-month agreement with the out-of-town provider. The customer later realized what had occurred, then contacted their local provider, who assisted them with ensuring that their current system remained in operation and canceled the contract with the out-of-town provider.

The BBB has offered the following tips in regards to home security system sales:

*Be sure that you select a business that is reputable. Visit the BBB’s official website in order to determine what kind of customer experience record the company has, and furthermore, search for a BBB Accredited Security System provider that you will be able to trust.

*Take the time to obtain several estimates. Determine whether or not the business has the proper licensing in your area, and compare quotes and remember to factor in monthly monitoring fees and the initial installation charge. Additionally, be sure to check and see if you will be able to obtain a homeowners insurance discount for getting a system installed.

*Make sure that you understand all the terms of the contract prior to signing it.

Additionally, there are also a few important red flags that you should keep an eye out for as well, which include the following:

*Watch out for any and all high-pressure tactics. Any reputable seller will also give you as much time as you need to consider any deal, as well as make an appointment with you to come back after you’ve come to a decision. Keep in mind that federal law states that you have a period of three days to cancel any contract on most products and services.

*Beware of any deals that sound too good to be true. Oftentimes, customers have ended up getting disappointed when any products or services didn’t end up living up to all of the hype that they expected or that a company ended up doing a bad job.

In fact, many locations require a door-to-door solicitor license. Always exercise caution with those individuals who never appear to have any ties to your local community, as well as sellers who often quickly enter and exit an area and not deliver everything that they promise.
